Paper & Process

The Process: Giclée (pronounced zhee-klay) refers to a high-quality fine art printing process that uses archival-quality inks and acid-free, archival papers. This method is employed to reproduce photographs with exceptional colour accuracy and detail. The giclée process involves spraying microscopic droplets of ink onto the chosen medium, allowing for a precise and detailed reproduction of the original artwork. This printing technique is favoured by artists and photographers for its ability to produce prints with a wide colour gamut and longevity.

The Paper: Hahnemühle is a world-renowned German paper manufacturer with a rich history dating back to 1584. Specializing in high-quality fine art papers, Hahnemüle has become synonymous with excellence in traditional and digital art printing. Their range includes various textures, weights, and finishes to suit different artistic preferences. Photographers, artists, and printmakers often choose Hahnemühle papers for their archival quality, ensuring longevity and preservation of prints.

1. Semi-Gloss paper: Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta (315gsm) combines the characteristics of a traditional baryta paper with the texture and feel of Hahnemühle’s Photo Rag range. Baryta papers typically have a barium sulfate layer that enhances the depth and richness of photographic prints. It is designed to provide a smooth surface, excellent colour reproduction, and high image definition. It offers a luxurious feel to printed images.

2. Matte paper: Hahnemühle Photo Rag (308gsm) is a highly regarded fine art paper. This acid-free, 100% cotton paper is known for its exceptional quality. Its popularity stems from its ability to showcase images with remarkable clarity and depth, contributing to the overall visual impacted of printed artwork. The smooth and matte surface of Photo Rag provides a luxurious feel, enhancing the details and colours of printed images. Limited Editions

Limited edition photographic prints are a specific number of prints produced from a single image, a total number predetermined by the artist. Each print within the edition is numbered and accompanied by the artist’s signature. The limited quantity ads exclusivity and value to each print, making them more of a collectors item. Andrew limits his prints to 100 of each image. The larger the print, the more exclusive the art.
